We Make Great Music

We are a Brass Band, Community Focused, Based in Southern Sydney

Southern Brass, a fully owned affillate of Sutherland Shire Brass, is a non-profit, community brass band dedicated to providing opportunities for musicians to perform for the entertainment of others. We are based in Sutherland Shire in the southern suburbs of Sydney, Australia.

If you are visiting our site because you want to hire one of the best brass bands in Australia, then you have made a good choice. We are available for concerts, charity balls, weddings - just about any event when exciting music is a requirement.  If you play a brass instrument or percussion and are interested in joining a band that is not old fashioned or boring, then you have made the right choice. Our standards and expectations are high, but we know you wouldn't have it any other way.

*** Under Construction down from this ***

Southern Brass (Sutherland Shire Brass) has its origins as St George District Band and for many years occupied a Hall at Hurstville that was demolished during construction of the Westfield Shopping Centre. The constitution defined the term 'District' as meaning the district of St George, embracing the Municipalities of Hurstville, Kogarah, Rockdale, Bexley and the Shire of Sutherland. At the Annual General Meeting held on 20th February 1953 at Electricity House, Hurstville the band became known as St George Sutherland Shire Band.

In 1961 Sutherland Shire Council granted land for a hall in Eton Street and the band continued to be known as The St. George Sutherland Shire Band until July 1973 when the name was changed to Sutherland Shire Silver Band. With incorporation in 2001 the name was changed to Sutherland Shire Brass.
